Hey girls! I think we can agree that we all want to be in better shape and in great health but finding time for it can be tough. A daily home workout can save you time but it is a skill.

We are WAY too busy to just be jumping around in the living room and not reaching any of our goals, right? We want our time to be effective and to make sure we are getting results.

Here are some tips to help you get the best home workout, maximize your time AND get the results you want.

1. Make an appointment with yourself 

It all starts with commitment to YOU.  Treat yourself as important as your next hair appointment to get those roots touched up 😉  or a meeting with your boss.  Factor it into your daily schedule as a non-negotiable.  Too often we put our workout on a to do list with a “It’d be cool if I could fit that in” rather than a “It’s a must!” priority level.

2. Create a home workout zone

Pinterest that baby out!  When have  a dedicated space for your workout it’s like you have made it part of your family!  Get as cute and fun with it as you can.

  • Paint one wall an accent color
  • Hang a pretty piece of sheer fabric on the wall with string lights behind it
  • Get a hanging succulent to hang in the corner
  • Put your favorite inspirational quote in a picture frame and hang it on the wall

3. Get an accountability partner

Accountability is probably the one thing I hear people say they need me for the most. (Haha I thought it was because I am well educated and have a ton of experience helping hundreds of women get the results with my super ninja training techniques! 😉 

Nope!  They need to be held accountable to show up and get the job done!

Find a friend, a fitness group or a coach that will check in with you and make sure you are showing up for yourself!  Bonus points if they can help you make adjustments along the way to get you to hit that goal!

4. Find a home workout program you love 

Have you ever gotten the “bug” to workout but didn’t really have a plan? You just wandered over to your workout corner and did a little of this and a little of that, kind of figured you might be done and then hit the showers? It is hard to “get into it” when you are not really sure if you are doing the right things.

The bottom line is… When you are excited about your next workout you will DO IT! When you have variety and the confidence that what you are doing is getting you toward your goal you will be more confident.

5. Eliminate home workout distractions

I know this can be tough but try to schedule your workout for a time when you won’t be interrupted by the dog, the kids, the phone, work calls and the refrigerator 😉

One of my best tips for eliminating distractions is to schedule your workout for early in the day before all of the crazy starts! There is something so satisfying about completing a great workout before your day even begins!

6. Set goals and check in with them frequently!

It is so easy for goals to get away from us. We get going on life and forget that we even set them until 6 months later we find them scribbled on a note card and say “ohhhhhh yeaaahhhhh! That was a good idea!” Make a daily home workout part of those goals!

 

7. Slowly build your home gym

The idea of setting up your home gym all at once can be daunting. Choose a new piece of equipment and plan your workouts around that piece for a month or so. The next month bring in a new piece of equipment for your upcoming workout program.

Here are some of the best home workout tools that pack a big punch for small spaces :

  • Equalizers
  • Jump rope

8. Get a new mindset 

Your home workout can be as hard and satisfying as you want it to be… If you have the right plan. Create a plan or hire a trainer so you know that your workout is hitting all of the areas you want to. Here are few things to keep in mind.

  • Make sure your workout includes a variety of movements (front back, side to side and twisting)
  • Is your workout hard enough but not too hard-A tough workout is great but be careful not to over train
  • Make sure you are getting in at least 3 days a week of strength training, plenty of walking and a couple of days a week of cardio

When you have the confidence that your workout is going to propel you forward, your mindset around getting it done will be much more excited and positive! (Check out this blog post for staying motivated for your at home workout!)
