Q: What is your favorite inspirational quote?
Life is not meant to be endured, it is meant to be enjoyed <<< We love this because sometimes we can get so bogged down in the day to day that we forget to realize that we DO have some amazing thing to be grateful for and enjoy in life
Q: What are your personal health and fitness goals?
My personal health goals are to create a healthier lifestyle through diet, habit change, exercise and meditation. My fitness goals are to be able to do 10 straight leg push ups, regain mobility in my shoulders and reverse osteoporosis.
Q: What ONE thing keeps you most focused and motivated to continue to work hard to reach your goals?
Every morning I ask myself ….”How do you want to feel tomorrow?” Because it starts with today and I set my intentions for the day each morning on paper.
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started with us?
I am in my 50’s and have not exercised for 15 years. My osteopenia was re-categorized to osteoporosis recently and I decided I really needed to get serious about a lifestyle change. An exercise plan was a vital part of that.
I was looking for a gym that would have a trainer, a bunch of women and a good vibe. Missi’s gym fit all those needs and more!
Q: What did you THINK training was going to be like vs what it actually was or what you received? (Did you have concerns, Did you learn something about yourself/ your health, body or your experience… that you did not expect?
My path back to exercise started 3 months before I made the commitment to come to the gym. I started out doing sit and be fit on the tv once a week. Bought myself some 1/2 lb, 1 and 2 pound dumbbells, some resistance bands, a rebounder and a jump rope. I continued with this plan increasing days of sit and be fit. It was difficult and I felt very disappointed in how difficult everything was. Slowly I felt a little stronger and decided to try a gym.
Q: Did you have any concerns?
I was mentally ready to work but worried about re-injuring a shoulder and wrist issue and wondered if I could keep up. I was pleasantly surprised that Missi could adjust and personalize the class to our needs. The most surprising thing was that I could actually lift more weight than I had previously thought. Went from using the 1 1/2 lb weights at home to 5 lb weights.
Q: How has Missi Balison Fitness made a difference in your life?
I feel more alive, happier and look forward to going to the gym!
Q: What kinds of milestones have you accomplished and what specific results have you achieved so far?
I I moved from being able to do 0 bent knee push-ups to doing 30 in a row. My bone mass has increased 5% with a combination of exercise and lifestyle changes. I can jump rope 100 times without stopping.
Q: What made you decide to want to join Missi Balison Fitness to meet your fitness goals?
The opportunity to workout with women in my age range. Missi’s positive attitude toward fitness and life!
Q: What kinds of results have you achieved so far?
I lost 14 pounds, feel happier and healthier, bone mass increase of 5% and created a healthy exercise habit.
Q: What would you say to someone on the fence about making a change & committing to their goals?
You need to be ready mentally to make the commitment no matter what the critical voice in your head tried to tell you.
Q: What ONE thing keeps you most focused and motivated to continue to work hard to reach your goals?
The camaraderie of the women who work out at the gym.
